Tseung Kwan O – Lam Tin Tunnel — Main Tunnel and Associated Works (NE/2015/01)

Participated in the civil, drainage, viaduct and branch tunnel structural works of the TKO–Lam Tin Tunnel (NE/2015/01) — a key section of Route 6 — featuring an innovative sliding-rail scaffolding system on viaduct construction to demonstrate professional and innovative capability.

Tseung Kwan O – Lam Tin Tunnel — Main Tunnel and Associated Works (NE/2015/01)

The Tseung Kwan O – Lam Tin Tunnel (TKO-LTT) is a 3.8 km dual two-lane highway connecting Po Shun Road in TKO (east) to the Trunk Road T2 at Kai Tak Development (west), with approximately 2.2 km in tunnel. Together with the Central Kowloon Route, it forms Route 6 — an express link from West Kowloon to TKO — substantially improving connectivity between East Kowloon and the southeast New Territories. The road opened to traffic in December 2022.

Allied Way participated in a portion of Contract NE/2015/01, covering civil and drainage works for the main tunnel, structural works for viaduct sections and the branch tunnel, as well as associated environmental mitigation, temporary works and ancillary installations. The scale and complexity of the project required high-frequency sequencing coordination and site management alongside the main contractor and numerous subcontractors.

On the viaduct sections, the project team introduced an innovative Sliding-Rail Formwork Traveller system, enabling assembled steel scaffolding to slide forward along pre-laid rails to the next span without the need for repeated dismantling and re-erection. This approach significantly reduced scaffolding cycle times, shortened the construction programme and lowered working-at-height risks — demonstrating Allied Way's professional judgement and innovative capability in construction methodology.

Drainage works included tunnel internal drainage, surface stormwater collection and discharge facilities, all sequenced to align with tunnel progress. Environmental management required strict monitoring of noise, dust and water quality throughout construction, with ecological mitigation measures implemented in accordance with EIA requirements.

The overall contract was valued at approximately HK$8.73 billion, with a Leighton–China State joint venture as the main contractor under a CEDD contract framework. Allied Way's participation in this landmark infrastructure project provided valuable delivery experience across tunnel, viaduct and drainage engineering disciplines.
