HKIA Three-Runway System — APM Tunnel Civil Works (Contract 3801)

Participated in civil works under HKIA 3RS Contract 3801, involving excavation and construction of a 4-cell reinforced concrete APM tunnel on the existing airport island, linking Terminal 2 to the new 3RS passenger facilities.

HKIA Three-Runway System — APM Tunnel Civil Works (Contract 3801)

The Hong Kong International Airport Three-Runway System (3RS) is one of the largest infrastructure projects in Hong Kong, designed to expand long-term airport capacity. The Automated People Mover (APM) system serves as the critical connection between Terminal 2 and the new 3RS passenger facilities.

Allied Way participated in a portion of the civil works under Contract 3801, involving excavation and construction of a 4-cell reinforced concrete APM tunnel on the existing airport island. Together with the parallel 2-cell Baggage Handling System (BHS) tunnel, the combined structure forms the backbone of the new APM corridor.

Construction took place within an operational airport environment, requiring strict compliance with Airport Authority working-hour restrictions, restricted area access protocols, apron safety requirements and noise control regulations, alongside intensive interface coordination with multiple subcontractors and adjacent contract packages.

The tunnel structure was built using large-area system formwork with dense reinforcement cages, advanced through staged concrete pours to ensure structural integrity and geometric precision under stringent quality and programme demands. The contract was administered under NEC3 ECC Option D, emphasising shared risk and proactive management.

The project demonstrates Allied Way's execution capability in reinforced concrete construction, sequencing planning and site management within highly constrained, multi-interface, high-standard infrastructure environments.

Scope

  • Excavation and structural construction of 4-cell RC APM tunnel
  • Large-area system formwork and dense reinforcement works
  • Time-restricted construction within operational airport environment
  • Multi-package interface coordination and NEC3 contract administration
  • Quality control, programme management and safety compliance
